Snafu
This image was created using Photoshop 6 and Painter 7 using Painter's pastel brush. Immediately below is the final image which is 8x10 inches, printed using an Epson 1160 inkjet printer on an 11x14 sheet of Epson Heavyweight Matte paper. The succeeding images discuss how I worked to create Snafu who resides on Capitol Hill. |

The image below is the original scan into Photoshop 6 at 600dpi, 150% and the scanned image size is 4 x 6 inches. Note the Snafu's 'red eye' problem. |

This is the cropped, color corrected image. I fixed Snafu's 'red eye' problem using a technique outlined here |

In Painter, I created the sketch of Snafu shown below using the Sharp Chalk brush. Rather than creating the sketch on Painter's canvas layer, I sketched and painted on a separate layer above the canvas which gave me greater flexibility when creating a background for the main image. The Painter layer is transparent in the areas that don't have paint so the main image does not have to be cut out of the white canvas background when placing the image on a new background. You can't see it here but in Painter, only the sketch lines would show, there wouldn't be any white background. I then used the Soft Pastel brush to fill in the detail and the FX Fuzzy Brush (dab type=camel hair, opacity=50%, size=10.5, feature=4, Jitter=0.50) to create fur. |

Here's a close up of the final image. The Snafu layer in Photoshop had a small drop shadow applied. |

I had a bit of fun playing with Snafu's name. The letters "S", "N", "A", "F" and "U" were done using the Dancin' Letters font. |
